Total Devastation at Em Nau

Total Devastation at Em Nau

It is storm season and on Tuesday 27 October 2015 we were hit by a severe storm cell that came out of nowhere .

To say we were flattened is an understatement.

We lost all our goat sheds/shelters when a big tree fell on them - luckily none of the goats were killed but I had a tough time freeing Cyd (who is due to kid anyday) who was trapped in a tiny space - a clucky chook that was about a foot to her right was killed when a beam pinned her.  I then tried to free three of the current crop of kids who were trapped in tiny spaces under fallen roofing and tree branches.  The rest of the goats were relatively unscathed aside from being all huddled in under a small section of roofing.

We lost all our chook encloses to either the falling tree or being blown "to OZ" and ended up losing about 20 or so chickens.

The sheep and cattle, luckily, didn't get affected to badly and we had no immediate causalities on that front although on Sunday 01 November we did lose a calf.

Around the house paddock we lost (in varying degrees) the roof/walls/doors off our storage sheds lost our A/C condenser, had hail damage on windows, down-pipes and guttering, had our gardens and crops flattened and had a number of trees downed over fences (one brought down over the driveway so Heather couldn't get home on Tuesday night).

Over all we are pretty lucky that we got out of it without more damage or injury/ loss of life.

I will spend more time in updating the blog over coming days (once I have cleaned up a bit) so in the mean time a couple of photos to give you an idea

Stay safe
