....and even more rain

.............. and still it rains. We have not had more than two or three consecutive days without rain and it is starting to get a little dreary on the soul. The saving grace has been that during one of the infrequent dry spells we had the driveway “bobcat-ed” and it now is holding up pretty well to the rain.
We also picked up a new house cow whom we have named “Daphne” and Doug the Droughtmaster bull has finished his passion holiday and went back to his previous owners.
The three calves Veronica, Betty and Football have been keeping Daphne company and showing her the good places to find some grass to eat. The other cattle have had the bottom paddock opened up to them and have disappeared up the hill on the far side of the property to eat the grass that has been untouched for about 12 months. H and I went looking for them last weekend and discovered all four over the ridgeline enjoying the freedom. On the way back to the house we saw a large yellow belly black snake, which surely should be the last of the season before they go into winter slowdown/hibernation. The snake beat a hasty retreat back through the long grass and up the hill.
On the chicken front we have also picked up some Silky and Araucana chooks which have been added to the breeding pens. We also dispatched a number of roosters (that were not needed for breeding) to a better place.
Our next plans are to increase the size of the goat yards to allow them more running/grazing space and to build a new ‘super” chook enclosure to house the various breeds in their own spacious pens. All this will keep both of us busy for the next couple of months as we do a little bit at a time (as funds permit)
Until next time enjoy your dash
