Full Circle

We experienced the full circle of life at Em Nau Farm over the past week.  Our birman cat “Tazo” passed away after 17 wonderful years on this earth and we had three more kids born.

Tazo was a great wowa. He was with us for many years and was a widely travelled wowa to boot.   He passed from old age on the 4th of July.

Tazo moved with us from Sydney, to Darwin, then onto Brisbane, and then finally here to Ocean View. He always settled in well, and always slept on our bed. Just show him where the kitty litter and tucker and water are located, and leave the rest to him.

Tazo was a very docile chocolate birman, and as you might have guessed, was named by our chilluns when they were very young. You might recall the Tazo's that used to come in chip packets - the little round disc things - our son Guido (who was 3 or 4 at the time) thought that Tazo was a good name for a wowa - and so it was!

So now Tazo is in a good place, where the kitty litter never needs changing , where the water dish is never empty , where there's always more minced kangaroo meat and a constant fresh supply of bikkies in his tucker dish , where there's always his spot on the bed without fear of competition, and most importantly, a hand always at the ready to give him yet another pat .

p.s. Oh, and for those of you who don't know what a wowa is - that's the noise a cat makes when a child pulls their tail.

On the reverse side on the 7th we had three more kid born (taking the total born from the 3rd of May to thirteen (which is nearly the number we stated with before the kidding season started – 17) and we still have four more does to go.

We had visitors over on Sunday to have a look at Em Nau and so their children could experience milking goats and cows and see all the farm animals. We had just finished milking the goats and I was filling water buckets when one of the visitors said “I think that goat is about to kid”. Well pandemonium broke out as the two children wanted to go into the pen for a closer look as Scarlett gave birth to a beautiful little doe (which we plan to call Kapuk).

With the show over the others went down to milk the cow and I said I would stay back to see if Scarlett had a second one ..................... whilst I was cleaning-up I glanced over to the hay feeder and there was Sienna (#2) underneath the feeder in the throws of kidding with a look on her face as if to say “my turn .... my turn”.

Sienna gave birth to two reasonable sized bucks.

Needless to say the children will have something special to recite at Show and Tell at school and I have the feeling so will their mum and dad when asked “what did you do on the weekend"

So the circle of life once again turned at Em Nau.  As we were once told – you can’t have live stock without dead stock but the loss of Tazo has hit us more than it would if it was one of the cattle or goats.  Tazo was a family member and will be very sorely missed.
