RIP Pats

Yesterday afternoon I arrive home to find Pats had died.  She, over the past two weeks since she had “come home”, had been slowly gaining her appetite back and had been wee-ing and poo-ing as you would have expected from a health calf.

Why she died we will probably never know but we are certain that she enjoyed the last couple of weeks of her short life.

Over the past couple of weeks she would walk around and graze on the grass in the calf enclosure, have a bit of bump and push with both Eddie and Bubbles, eat chaff and grain when it was put down for her and drink water and milk when she wanted.  Her only problem was that when she fell over or sat down she could not get up by herself – once up she was strong enough to support her own weight, walk, run etc, she just could lift herself from the prone position.

We are both sad that she has passed as she was a real fighter but in the end she sat down in the shelter, rested her head on her front legs and went to sleep.  Bubbles was sitting just near her friend, almost like she was taking care of her until I got home.

RIP little Pats – you are no longer the Devil Calf but one of God’s calves.

These two photos was taken the day before she died
