The Little Things
The Little Things
We had our
granddaughter “Little EM” come for a sleepover last weekend and it got me to
thinking about the little things in life (pun intended) that make us
happy.
Be it a babies’ smile or giggle, the way they look at you as if to say “you’re an idiot” when you pull a face or do silly talk. Be it the crisp chill that comes with the start of winter, be it the clear sky where you can see every star twinkle back at you because there is no “man made light” to hinder the universe or be it the sound of a rooster crowing at 3AM letting you know day is not far away. The joy we get from just stopping and sitting, watching the animals graze or play, the joy we get from digging in the garden, watching new life come into the world, the kangaroo hop across the paddock, the echidna or kookaburra coming for a visit – it is all these small things in life that tend to make us happy.
When EM was
with us for the sleep over I felt that all was right with the world and that with
all the doom and gloom that we hear on the news every night she will inherit a
great future if we teach her to live for the little things that make her happy
and not to sweat too much on the things out of her control.
I know that
our journey to Em Nau Farm was the taking of the right decisions at the
opportune moments that they were presented.
H and I have often discussed that if we had been looking for a place
like the farm we wouldn’t have found it.
It was the series of events around us discovering our little piece of
land that directed us to where we are today.
I think it comes down to life being the sum of all the little things
that make us happy and the little things that mould us to who we are and what
we will become.
As H and I
sit on the verandah each evening looking at shadows lengthen in the setting sun
I can’t help but think about the little things that make me happy and to wonder
if others pay as much attention to them or do they regret missing out on the
experience.
Until next time enjoy the little things and remember to live your dash
